Coffee + Computer = Disaster!

I absolutely *adore* this RAM my ROM brooch carried by trivialpursuit on Etsy ($15). Considering buying this retro mac as a get well present for my little survivor! She also has tons of awesome vintage stuff so check her shop out. After a whole week of panic and worry, I am pleased to report that my computer has survived its terrible encounter with coffee!  Boy, do I have a story to tell you...

I was sitting in Panera (my usual spot for reading and grading papers), when a woman was passing me.  It was a really busy time of day, but I have become pretty skilled at ignoring everything around me.  I don't know how it happened, but she dropped her coffee cup right next to me.  She must have dropped it straight down because the steaming coffee jumped up, out, and onto my computer spraying it with its molten caffeine-ridden terror.

All I can tell you is that my heart stopped.  My computer and me are like best buds...  It knows my secrets, it has all of my work, my photos... my life!  In that instant my "digital life" flashed before my eyes as I reached for a napkin to wipe "Mac-chan" down.  Several keys instantly stopped working and although it didn't fizzle out or explode, I knew that it was going to need repairs.

In my frantic rush to provide emergency assistance to my technological friend, the woman looked down at me and said, "Sorry!  I sure hope you have a warranty for that!" and started to walk out.  I called out after her asking for a phone number, but she took one more glance before making her speedy way out.  There I was in the middle of the coffee shop with a drippy pile of metal feeling quite hopeless.

After three trips to the Mac store, they were able to fix it.  Thankfully the liquid did not penetrate through to the logic board, and all I needed to do was replace my keyboard.  It feels so good to have my computer home and I plan on backing everything up promptly.

If it had died, I am not sure what I would have done...  So a general service reminder to everyone:  Back up your files because you never know when someone is going to dump a cup of coffee on your laptop!

Hi Christina, I'm glad you were able to get your computer fixed. I know what you mean about your computer being your life. I can't believe that woman just walked away. Talk about rude. Oh well all's well that ends well, I guess.
