Losing a Pet, Losing a Friend

The first time I saw this knitted gecko by Heather on NiftyKnits ($34.20 on Zibbet), it reminded me so much of Miso. The resemblance is uncanny. I am considering picking one up for Jon to keep on his desk in memory of her.Happy Halloween Everybody. I wish I could join whole-heartedly in the festivities, but my little family lost one of its members yesterday afternoon. Our Tokay Gecko, Miso, passed away. Miso was the first pet to pass since Jon and I have moved in together, so she is a tough loss for the both of us. I don't have any children, so my pets are like my kids--they greet me when I come home and they are perpetually happy to see me. Miso was a rather aggressive gecko, but she certainly grew on me for the year or so that we have had her. She will be sorely missed.
Our bookshelf has a heavy absense today. I looked for her when I walked in, but everything is quiet. No crickets chirping, no Miso warming up on her rock. I just wish there was something I could have done, but it all happened so suddenly. We know she hasn't been as chipper as she used to be, but I didn't expect this in the least. Jon called when I was working and I rushed home. She waited until it was Jon's favorite holiday.
We buried her in an inconspicious location where I know other lizards like to congregate. We made a little tombstone and cross for her and laid her to rest. RIP Miso (10-31-2010), we are going to miss our little reptilian friend. :(
