Treasury Thursday: Scarlet Plums & Purple Cherries

It has certainly been a little while since a post! I am still here, but the mad rush to get everything prepared before school starts has been taking just about all of my time. In fact, I need to attend the first lecture tomorrow morning! This will probably be my hardest year in graduate school so half of me is absolutely exasperated, while the other half is exhilarated!

Anywho, I thought it was about time for a new treasury! This one is inspired by two of my favorite autumn colors: plum purple and scarlet red. I find it amazing how all of these pieces scream "autumn" to me without the typical combination of orange, yellow, and red. I think these colors look so incredibly classy together, don't you?

Treasury Thursday: Pale September

I cannot believe it is September already... Time certainly does fly.  I've been in a sombre mood lately as I realize my life is picking back up again. That subtle wave of homesickness is never too far behind.  So I put on some Fiona Apple, lit some candles, and worked at my desk while J. was at work.  The song "Pale September" came on and it really reminded me of home.  I remember going to school every September, waiting for the bus in that misty fog with a sky that was neither blue nor grey.  It had its own kind of beauty and I will miss it this year.  So this Treasury is in honor of September.

Pale September, I wore the time like a dress that year
The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my skin
But as the embers of the summer lost their breath and disappeared
My heart went cold and only hollow rhythms resounded from within (Fiona Apple)

I think this might be one of the prettiest treasuries I have ever created.  Thanks so much to the Packagery for developing Treasure Trove and to Kat Lantz for sharing this amazing widget with me!

Treasury Thursday: Eat Your Greens!

This week's treasury, Eat Your Greens!, is inspired by my latest efforts to live healthier.  Being a graduate student and a crafter are not exactly conducive to an active lifestyle.  In fact, I think I spend more time sitting at my desk than any where else.  So, I am making a change to eat better and be more active with the hopes of having more energy to do the things I love.

I was kind of amazed at how many cool vegetable-themed items there are on Etsy.  Everything from scarves that look like lettuce to vegetable aprons to green bean clay miniatures.  But when I thought about it, it totally makes sense!  I mean, who wouldn't want a gorgeous pepper painting in their kitchen?  And what a nice novelty a pea pod necklace would be to give as a gift?  (As my mother always says about me and my sister, we are two peas of the same pod...)

Anyway, be sure to Eat Your Greens on this treasury Thursday!

Treasury Thursday: Goldfish Have No Memory

Today's Treasury is titled "Goldfish Have No Memory."  I have been listening to a lot of Ani Difranco lately.  I often go on these music binges, but I first started listening to Ani when I was a freshman in high school and her music has been a constant in my life ever since.

My memory this week has been absolutely off-kilter.  I keep meaning to get things done, but I keep forgetting what I need to do!  Sometimes I feel like I can only focus on one task at a time and anything else thrown at me floats in the ether until I am reminded by J.  So I was sitting here, listening to Ani, and I heard the lyrics to the song called Little Plastic Castle...  Particularly these lines:

they say goldfish have no memory
i guess their lives are much like mine
and the little plastic castle
is a surprise every time
and it's hard to say if they're happy
but they don't seem much to mind

Haha, what can I say.  Sometimes, I think it would be nice to live life like a goldfish (ignorance is bliss, after all)!  Enjoy the treasury -- it took me a little while to find the perfect images, but I think I did a good job capturing "goldfish"ness with a few bubbles in between.  Thank you to all of the lovely artists!  And if you want to listen to some Ani, then you can click here to listen to a clip of these lyrics.

Study Fatigue

What I would do for 48 hours of free time!  This week has been incredibly busy on so many different levels.  My students have their midterm tomorrow so I have been working double-time answering e-mail questions and prepping them. (If I had a nickel for every time they e-mailed me a question that could be answered if they just bothered to open their textbook, I would be a millionaire!)  On top of the exam-time scurry, I have had a fair deal of my own work, meetings, and lectures that are "optional," but I am still expected to attend.  On top of it all, I had a gargantuan order for origami dolls that has had me on my toes! (Not complaining, but why couldn't it have happened last week when things were quiet?!)

My web presence this week has been pretty much reduced to nil. nada. zero.  I just need to keep reminding myself that I chose to go to graduate school because I thrive on the pressure.  I love what I do and I love the challenge that comes with it... But on days like today when the sun was so brilliant with a soft breeze, it gets really hard to convince yourself that doing work is worth it.  It looks like I am just going to have to buckle down and suck it up!

In online news, I am currently featured in two lovely treasuries.  Please check them out if you have a free moment and leave some love!

As for me?  It is back to the books.  My goal is to finish a solid three chapters of my latest read before bed.  Wish me luck!
